Fuller hopes students can finally pass Bala test

Goalkeeper Will Fuller says Cardiff Metropolitan University are eager to set the record straight against Bala Town this weekend, adding they are unfazed by their difficult run of fixtures in the second phase of the Dafabet Welsh Premier League.

The Archers travel to Maes Tegid on Friday hoping to banish memories of two 1-0 defeats to the Lakesiders before the mid-season split – the first of which came during a rotten run of five defeats in their opening six games.

An impressive recovery has since seen Met secure a place in the top six of the league, and Fuller says his side are a different animal since their last tussle with Colin Caton’s men.

Fuller told the club’s Welsh Premier League podcast: “The first game was very early on in our campaign and I think we’d spoken before about finding our feet.

“Then away at Bala we didn’t really give a good enough account of ourselves so I think that was one of the most disappointing games of the season.

“We’ll be looking to put that right. Obviously their most recent game was televised, so we’ll be looking at the highlights of that, breaking it down by looking at their strengths and weaknesses and looking at what we can expose. Then we can hopefully put a game plan together, execute it and come away with some points.”

Fuller was beaten twice during his team’s 2-0 defeat to champions-elect The New Saints in their last league outing, but he insists there are plenty of positives for his team to build on.

He added: “It was disappointing not to pick up any points. Obviously it was a tough game against a side that have just set a world record for consecutive wins, so we knew the size of the task heading down there.

“I thought we moved the ball around really well and created chances and we were fairly resilient in our defensive efforts.

“I think there’s plenty of positives to take into Friday night’s game.”

Friday’s visit to Bala will be Met’s third straight league game on the road, with another trip north to face Bangor City scheduled for the following week.

But shot-stopper Fuller says his side are relishing the challenge of a prolonged spell away from home, adding that they cannot afford to shy away from being tested without home comforts.

“We wanted to be in that top six and we wanted difficult fixtures. The flip side of having so many away fixtures is we get a run of home games towards the end of the phase so we have to play these tough games at some point.”

“It’s down to us to put in performances that warrant points and if we can do that.”
