Canton Liberal’s game changer Andre Phillips scored a hatrick tonight as Liberal overturned a two-goal deficit to rescue a point in the Premier Division.
Canton Liberal and Sully ports played to a three-all draw on Wednesday evening, as a hatrick from Andre Phillips was enough to give Liberal a point, Sully’s goals came from Will Gale, Alex Long and Christopher Rees.
It would be Liberal who opened the scoring as Phillips would break through the defence on the left hand side and slot home, much to he delight of the home fans.
They would almost double their lead as Christopher Dye would have a shot that would keeper would spill, which would deflect out for a corner, but his shot on the rebound from the corner would go wide.
Sully would equalise though five minutes later as Will Gale would break into the box beating numerous Liberal defenders before putting a low shot into the left hand corner of the goal, slotting home to make it 1-1.
The away side would then go in-front as Alex Long would catch Aaron Fettah off guard with a speculative long-range effort, going through his own players and the Liberal defence, rippling into the back of the net, as Long would wheel away in jubilation with his team mates.
Sully would almost score again as striker Will Gale would break down the flank, bearing down on goal but unfortunately for him he would slice his shot, allowing the keeper to collect.
Liberal would have the chance to equalise as Jay Fettah was fouled by Richard Yarr, giving Jonathan Jefferies the chance through a free-kick but it was blazed over the bar.
Phillips would then trouble the Sully Sports defence again, making a run on the right-flank, breaking his way into the box before the ball deflected in the air for a Liberal shot but it wasn’t struck cleanly and Nathan Lewis collected.
Liberal were made to rue their missed chances though as Sully Sports would take a two-goal lead as Corey Hallett gave away a free-kick as Christopher Rees was left unmarked from the resulting free-kick, scoring with a free-header.
The home side would almost pull a goal back immediately as a looping cross from Christopher Dye almost caused Lewis trouble but he tipped it over the bar.
Striker Will Gale would then break into the box for Sully and a penalty appeal was turned down as supporters and management staff questioned the decision.
The first half would close with Phillips again showing his class as his shot would deflect out for a corner after controlling a low cross from the Liberal winger.
The half time whistle blew with Sully the happier of the two sides, going in with a two-goal advantage. Sully would bring off goalkeeper Nathan Lewis at half time, giving a run out to their secondary keeper Alex Hales.
Almost immediately after the restart, Liberal pulled one back in the form of Phillips who would have his initial sho saved by the keeper but would be given time and space to drag the ball away from the goalkeeper, giving him time to pick his shot which would end up in the back of the net.
Phillips would almost turn provider as they chased a quick equaliser, with Dye heading over from Phillip’s cross.
He would then be given the opportunity to score from a free-kick but it would be blocked by the Sully defence as it rebounded out, a shot would go narrowly wide past he left post.
There would be a stoppage in play during the match as the Sully Sports striker Will Gale would have only the keeper to beat, only for Aaron Fettah to deny the striker with the lower half of his body, resulting in a stoppage in play.
Sully would have another chance to score as Will Gale would be fouled but the ref would allow an advantage, as Alex Langues would bear down on goal, only for Fettah to pull off another save, going down low to stop him from scoring.
Gale again would have a chance to double his tally as he would get another advantage, with only the keeper to beat but Fettah would put him off and the ball would be put behind for a goal-kick.
Alex Long would almost grab another from distance as Sully inflicted more pressure onto liberal, with his shot from distance being tipped onto the post.
Despite Sully looking for a fourth goal, it would be Liberal to be the next team to score as Phillips would get the match-ball, slotting home with a low shot and no one around him, to make it 3-3.
As the game remained level, Sully would be given one last final opportunity to score but a goal line clearance from Ben Jenkins meant that the game was a draw.
