“We need to become more resolute defensively” – Met captain Woolridge

Cardiff Metropolitan University captain Bradley Woolridge says his side need to defend more resolutely as they approach the final three regular games of Welsh Premier League season.

The Archers have yet to win in Phase Two of the season and Woolridge has called on the Met to defend like they did in Phase One of the season, where they were ranked as the third best defence in the league.

“I think they boys have played well without getting results that warrant the performance. We need to become more resolute defensively as we were in phase 1, and I’m confident we can do that in the remaining games.”

Unfortunately for Bradley, the game against Bangor City will be another game that he will miss due to an arm injury picked up at the 2-0 away defeat to gap Connahs Quay.

“Unfortunately I won’t be playing again this weekend. It’s been tough, I can’t remember the last time I missed 3 games in the bounce through injury!”

It was a cruising 4-0 victory the last time at Cyncoed Campus, which saw Andy Legg leave Bangor City as manager just a few days later, the Met captain says his side made the league aware of their quality with the win that day.

“The last time we played Bangor at home has to be the highlight! I think people really took notice of us after that result, but we have to find that level of performance more consistently to progress further.

That’s the level of performance we have to strive for, and hopefully the boys can put on another performance Sunday and come away with the 3 points.”

Despite his absence, Woolridge feels that players such as Swindlehurst and Taylor have performed well in the league since their inclusion in the side.

“The younger lads have done really well for us! They’ve been played regularly in our university leagues and performing well, so it’s great to see them get a chance for them personally and the sustainability of the club.”

After the Bangor match, it is the all important manner of the local rivalry against Carmarthen Town, with home advantage at stake for both sides in the Europa League play-offs.

“Carmarthen is our local derby this season, so a bit of rivalry is inevitable! We’ll prepare right and give it our all and hopefully that will be enough to get the right result.”
