Prestatyn Town welcome Edwards brothers as squad commits for season

Prestatyn Town have made their first summer transfer signs of the summer by signing North Walian brothers Zyaac and Zeb Edwards from Rhyl and Airbus UK.

Both players suffered relegation to the Cymru Alliance last season after both the Lilywhites and the Wingmakers finished in the Premier League drop-zone.

Zeb who has been with Airbus since last summer after coming through the academy at the Airfield joins after making nine first team appearances for Andy Thomas men last season.

Overall, the 18 year-old had 364 minutes to his name in what was a youthful Airbus side and he will now be given the opportunity to link up with his brother.

Zyaac returns to Prestatyn Town having played the season for Rhyl under Niall McGuiness. He made 20 appearances for the Lilywhites last season, scoring once and assisting once.

Edwards has played for English club Tranmere Rovers, as well as turning out for Airbus UK, just like his brother and Caernarfon Town.

With 46 appearances to his name in the top flight of Welsh football, Prestatyn will have a player of plenty of experience underneath his belt, despite being at the young of just twenty-one.

One of Zyaac’s memorable moments in his first spell at Prestatyn was scoring on Derby Day against Rhyl back in 2014.

Zyaac spoke on why he returned to the Motion Finance and showed gratitude in Neil Gibson’s decision to sign him.

“I’m pleased to be back at the club.  There is a good feeling around the place & this team could shock a few people next season. I’d like to thank Neil for asking me back here to play.”

Zeb on the other hand said that watching his brother Noah play for the club last season and the positive words his brother has said about the club persuaded him to join.

“I spent a bit of time at Prestatyn watching my brother Noah playing last season. My 3 older brothers have played for Neil & have always said good things about the club so it just felt right to sign & to be playing along side Noah & Zyaac”

It’s a family affair for the two brothers who will now be playing at the same club, just like their father who was Prestatyn’s goalkeeper back in the 1990s.

Both Zeb, Zyaac and their brother Noah Edwards could come up against their brother Kai who is a defender at the Connah’s Quay Nomads on the opening day of the season, where the two sides will meet at the Motion Finance Stadium.

The news comes with Monday’s announcement that bar Jordan Davies, the squad gave their commitment to Prestatyn Town for the 2017/2018 season.

Manager Neil Gibson who was speaking to Prestatyn Town’s website said that he was delighted to keep his players after interest in some of his squad.

“Obviously, I’m happy to have retained all the players that we finished the season with.” Gibson said. “It was a difficult task to make sure we kept everyone given the fact that there was so much interest from other clubs wishing to sign our players. We are delighted that they have remained loyal to Prestatyn.”

“I’m pleased to get Zyaac  back to the club. He’s someone we know well having played for us a few seasons back. We have monitored his progress over the last couple of seasons and are pleased with the progress he has made.

Zyaac has good skills & qualities which he can bring to the group. I’m certain he will fit in really well. His twin, Noah, is already playing for us so that should make it it fairly straightforward fitting back into the group. Noah gives us more Welsh Premier experience and plenty lots of attacking options.”
