10 teams took part in the past weekend’s JD Welsh Premier League action, with Bala forced to sit out thanks to TNS’ involvement in the Irn Bru Cup semi finals.

In the top six, Bangor took on Connah’s Quay in a crucial match for European qualification, whilst Carmarthen looked to continue their great escape from the relegation zone after two consecutive wins.

Top Six

Bangor 1-0 Connah’s Quay Nomads

If Bangor City finish 2nd at the end of the season, they may well look back on this game as the deciding factor.

Connah’s Quay had the chance to create a five point gap between themselves and the Citizens, but an ugly win from Kevin Nicholson’s side was enough to clinch victory.

Nomads opened the game strong and had chances through Michael Wilde and Michael Bakare, but they couldn’t break the deadlock before the interval.

Bangor grew into the game, and got a vital goal when Kai Edwards took a deflection from a Bangor corner kick which went into his own net.

The Citizens were then forced to endure a late onslaught of attacks from Connah’s Quay, which they survived to take the win.

Cardiff Met 1-3 Cefn Druids

This season’s surprise packages Cefn Druids continued their great form with a win against Cardiff Met in a sixth versus fifth game.

Influential Druids’ midfielder Alec Mudimu sent the visitors ahead, but an equaliser from Met’s Chris Baker made affairs level for half time.

In the second half Druids’ sensed their momentum and struck with Mudimu sending Druids ahead before Neil Ashton sealed the win with a third goal.

The victory brings Druids within three points from fifth place Cardiff Met, and on current form they look set to leapfrog the Students, which could give them a crucial home advantage in the play offs.

Bottom six

Newtown 1-2 Barry Town

The goals came fast at Latham Park in this Barry Town victory which gives them upper hand in the race for 7th place, the final play off spot.

Barry’s Ryan Newman got the first goal in what would be a nine minute goal rush. Nick Rushton equalised for Newtown, before star man Kayne McLaggon got what would prove to be the game’s winning goal in the 18th minute.

Newtown put Gavin Chesterfield’s side under a lot of pressure in the second half, but they weathered the storm to put themselves in a great position – 7th in the league with a game in hand.

Llandudno 3-2 Carmarthen AFC

This dramatic game went right to the end as both sides battled it out at Maesdu Park. Danny Shaw gave Llandudno the lead, but a well taken goal from Liam Thomas saw Carmarthen equalise.

In what was an end to end first half, Matty Williams hit the target to give the home side a half time lead.

Again Carmarthen were up against it after the restart, but the game looked to be going their way when Dwayne Coultress equalised.

But a 90th minute winner from Marc Williams saw Llandudno snatch a late win which keeps them in the race for 7th place.

Aberystwyth Town 1-1 Prestatyn Town

This was a game both sides wanted to win, and the point each will do little to settle their fears of relegation to the second tier.

New Prestatyn manager Gareth Wilson was looking for the side’s first points since November, and got off to a good start when Damian Ketley sent the North Wales Seasiders ahead on 20 minutes.

There was drama as Zyaac Edwards was shown a red card soon after coming on for Prestatyn, whilst Aberystwyth’s substitutions fared better as Geoff Kellaway went on to equalise with 13 minutes left on the clock.
