Aberystwyth Town announce UEFA pro licence holder Seamus Heath as new first team manager

Park Avenue, home of Aberystwyth Town

Aberystwyth Town have today announced the addition of former Wrexham midfielder Seamus Heath as their new first team manager. Neville Powell, who has managed the side since the beginning of this season, will become the club’s Director of Football, with Wayne Jones retaining his position as assistant manager.

Heath, 56, arrives at Park Avenue with immediate effect, tasked with ensuring that the Green and Whites maintain their JD Welsh Premier League status.

The arrival of Heath, who holds a UEFA Pro Licence, means that should Aber reach the qualifying rounds of European competitions in the future, they have a manager who is eligible to lead them.

Speaking to atfc.co.uk, chairman Donald Kane said: “The addition of Sheamus to our ranks is a great boost to the club at a crucial time in the season, with vital JD Welsh Premier League matches and a Welsh Cup semi-final on the horizon.

The former Distillery midfielder has coached at Glenavon, Kilmore Recreation and the Northern Ireland under-19s.

His most recent coaching assignments have been with Knockbreda under-20s and and Northern Irish First Division side Annagh United.

Kane went on to say: “The board is delighted with the new management structure and we hope and believe they will ensure a successful end to the season.

Aber are currently 10th in the JD Welsh Premier League, eight points clear of Carmarthen Town with four games to play.

Heath’s first game in charge will be away to ninth-placed Llandudno on Saturday. The Green and Whites can go above the Seasiders with a win.
