Former Everton and Australia forward Tim Cahill made a surprise visit to Jenner Park as he took the Barry Town United first-team for training.

The 38-year-old, who was born in Sydney is currently in Wales to obtain his UEFA B Licence badge and conducted training at Jenner Park on Tuesday evening.

It is not the first-time that Cahill has visited Jenner Park, with the Australian also part of the squad which beat Barry in a 2002 Challenge Cup match with Millwall, as they defeated the Linnets 2-0 – two years later the Lions lost to Manchester United in the 2004 FA Cup final.

“Thanks for having me was a pleasure to coach the first team today and also to meet the amazing staff and people that run this great club.” tweeted Cahill.

Cahill has enjoyed an illustrious career for club and country. He enjoyed his best years at Everton in an eight-year stint, where he scored 56 times in 226 games between 2004 through to 2012.

The target man has also been a massive success for the Socceroos, where he scored an impressive 50 goals in 107 appearances, before announcing his retirement after being part of the Australian World Cup squad.

He also earned a reputation for being a massive threat in the air, with the amount of goals he scored from his head – earlier on this season he made a sensational return to Millwall, but failed to hit the net in the 10 appearances he made.

He would have no doubt had some words of wisdom for the current Barry Town United squad as they prepare for their second season back in the JD Welsh Premier League, with Gavin Chesterfield’s men looking to build on their impressive first season back in the Welsh top-flight.
