Rowlands rues defensive errors as Llanuwchllyn downed by Queens Park

Llanuwchllyn manager Rikki Rowlands has lamented his side’s defensive errors for their 5-0 loss to Queens Park on the weekend in the Welsh National League Premier Division.

Llanuwchllyn have struggled to start the season, having won just once in 10 games, picking up five points. But, the North Wales outfit can have no shame in having lost to the league leaders, who were relegated from the Huws Gray Alliance last season.

But, Rowlands did not believe that his side struggled before Sam Tyrer was forced off through injury.

“We started really well and were able to contain them and compete, they didn’t really cause us much problems the game was fairly even! After 30 mins our centre half Sam Tyrer was forced of with injury and that unsettled us and gave Queens Park the upper hand. After saying that I can’t remember a single chance they created all their goals came from our own mistakes we gave the ball away twice in dangerous areas they were awarded a pen for hand ball we gifted them a free kick for a wreck-less tackle and we didn’t react to a lose ball in the box after failing to clear the ball and that again resulted in a goal.”

But, despite positives taken from their start, Rowlands expressed how disappointed he was with how his side allowed the league leaders to net five goals.

The manager rued his side’s defensive effort in the game, but insisted their effort was clear to see, in what was a tough away game.

“No I can’t be happy with how the game went because we gifted them with 5 goals and didn’t do the basics right! We were making the wrong decisions in the wrong areas of the field, I can’t fault the effort of the players they gave me and the club everything Saturday like they do every week!

“Queen’s Park is a tough place to go and once you let them get on top of the game they will punish any team! We have taken a lot of positives out of the game and rightly so because at time we played some really good football and created problems at times. Queen’s Park were deserved winners and are top of the league for a reason, we have to move on now and pick ourselves up and prepare well for the next game. I have a good bunch of lads at llan and we are all fighting for each other and determined to turn things around and I’m positive we can do that in the coming weeks.”

But, considering the off the field development and the injuries suffered in pre-season, the manager believes the club is headed in the right direction.

“Finally I’d just like to add that we lost a number of key players last season and it’s been a process of change in llan a number of good young players have stepped up from reserve football and are improving every week! We have got a good mixture of youth and experience and have recently added Warren Duckett to the squad from Porthmadog, he will bring quality, experience and leadership to the squad and there is no doubt that he will be a massive help in getting us further up the table were we belong.

We are also looking to strengthen the squad in the coming weeks and with ground developments in progress there are exciting times for the club and I’m glad to be apart of it.”
