Penybont narrowly beat Undy Athletic to clinch the Division One title at The Causeway this afternoon.

Bont, who were promoted last week despite not playing, were crowned Champions seven years after sealing promotion to the Welsh Premier League.

Luke Borrelli’s 75th minute strike ensured the victory which was needed to claim the Championship.

The hosts almost spoiled the party early on. Gareth Cullimore caught Alex Jarman’s flicked ball over the top, forcing Rhys Wilson to save.

After Kinsella went close for Bont, Cullimore had another opportunity but again Wilson denied him with an important save.

Luke Borrelli’s point-blank header was superbly saved by goalkeeper James Smallcombe.

Bont began to put the pressure on Smallcombe’s goal with a number of good chances. Kane Owen’s free-kick was met by the header of Sam Rodon but Smallcombe again denied a Blue shirt the opening goal.

Owain Warlow almost punished Smallcombe for committing to the ball as he lofted effort went agonisingly wide of the goal.

Neither side were able to find a goal in the first half, but Cwmamman United were holding Cambrian & Clydach Vale which would have secured the title.

Warlow was doing well on his flank and his left-footed effort forced the Undy keeper to save. He was replaced though after being unable to run off an injury.

The deadlock was broken with a quarter of an hour left. Luke Borelli punished the Undy defenders after a defensive mix-up allowed him to force the ball home from close range.

The goal was buoyed by the fact Cambrian & Clydach Vale, the only team able to catch Penybont, conceded just moments before Borrelli’s goal.

Goalkeeper Rhys Wilson though had to be alert to Nathan Woods’ curling effort, tipping it away from goal.

Smallcombe was forced into action late on as Marcus Griffiths turned his man inside out.

Penybont were able to see the game out for victory after being unchallenged in stoppage time.

Rhys Griffiths’ side now have a League Cup semi-final against Ynysygerwn to look forward to.
