Connah’s Quay victory leaves Queens Park boss Mark Roberts red-faced

Mark Roberts, manager of Queens Park was made to regret his comments after the Nomads progressed past Kilmarnock.

The Scot hoped that Kilmarnock would thrash the Nomads, however, Andy Morrison’s men proved Roberts wrong, overturning the first-leg defeat.

The 43-year-old previously played for the Nomads’ Europa League opponents, making 101 appearances for the Ayrshire club.

“I hope Kilmarnock take ten off them,” said Roberts who spoke to the Daily Record in mid-June.

“It will probably be six but I’d like ten. The one thing I can guarantee is that Kilmarnock will have too much for them.

“Kilmarnock will beat Connah’s Quay, no problem.”

Roberts continued his feud with the Deeside club, following their defeat in the Scottish Challenge Cup in November.

In November, they came from behind after Lewis Hawke opened the scoring at Hampden Park. George Horan and Michael Wilde scored in the final ten minutes, beating Queens Park.

From the Nomads’ showing in Glasgow, the former Killie man described the style of the Nomads, as he tried to help prepare his former club for the European tie.

“This is a side which takes centre and passes straight back to the goalie who kicks it forward as far as he can and they all just pile in.

“He can kick it 80 and 90 yards so that’s not something Killie have to deal with every week.”

The Nomads were also dubbed Jossy’s Giants by Daily Record journalist Keith Jackson.

Rhyl’s Belle Vue playing surface was also criticised, in the first leg of the tie.

Maclean said: “The surface isn’t great. A bit like a public park, isn’t it?”

Ferguson replied: “You don’t want to be too critical but the players have got to get on with it.”
