Huw McGregor’s five-minute hat-trick gave Ynyshir Albions the bragging rights in the Rhondda Derby over AFC Porth at The Oval.

The Buns were hosting their first-ever Welsh League home fixture at The Oval, following their Welsh League debut against Newport City on Saturday.

Eccentric winger McGregor upon his return from Wattstown lit up the Derby with two-footed efforts and a header.

The first-half damage proving too much for Porth to fight back from with Ynyshir dominating throughout the match.

Craig Well’s side now sits top of the Division following a positive set of results for the Porth side.

Ynyshir had a golden opportunity to open the scoring as Cory Morgan’s chipped ball fell to Joe Eason who lifted a shot over the bar.

They took the lead early in the first half as McGregor scored with a composed finish after Cory Morgan’s low cross.

Morgan and McGregor continued their partnership as McGregor scored his second. Morgan’s cross was met by the head of the former Wattstown man at the back post with Leo Satherley well beaten.

A third came just moments later as Kalium Williams’ searching ball wasn’t held by the Porth goalkeeper on a slippery surface with McGregor on hand to stroke the ball not the empty net.

The three goals came as a shock to Porth who reorganised themselves to try and thwart any further damage.

Porth almost pulled one back before the break as Kalium Williams cleared Callum Rees shot off the line.

Ynyshir had reduced Porth to just one chance after enjoying a dominant opening 15 minutes.

The Buns’ Sean Jones slipped from his marker but his header flew wide of the goal as they looked to add to their goal tally.

Satherley did well to keep the scoreline down as he first saved Cory Morgan’s low driving effort following a blistering run, before denying Joe Eason who looked for the corner of the goal.

Substitute Ceirion Mason was denied a goal after being judged to be offside after turning in a shot from Liam Eason’s shot.

Three-goal hero McGregor almost added a fourth for him and the Buns as he slammed an effort against the post.
