Andy Robinson of Ammanford Town scores his sides opening goal against Caerau Ely from the Penalty Spot. Caerau Ely v Ammanford Town at Cwrt-Yr-Ala in the JD Cymru South on the 18th January 2020. Lewis Mitchell/YCPD.

Ammanford score two late goals to come to claim all three points against Caerau Ely at Cwrt-yr-ala Road.

The experienced head of Andy Robinson – introduced from the bench – put the visitors ahead from the spot before Gavin Jones added a second in stoppage time.

Ammanford moved up to fourth with the victory,  whilst Caerau fell further behind Cwmbran Celtic after they defeated Goytre United.

The visitors thoroughly deserved the victory, having been patient throughout the match to score after creating a handful of chances.

Gruff Harrison’s introduction of Bruno Forkuoh proved a masterstroke with the substitute being heavily involved in both goals.

A goalmouth scramble ensued in the opening minute with the final product being Craig Frater dragging a shot wide.

Frater had another opportunity, forcing Elliot Matthews into action from Brett Enoch’s pass, as he shot at the keeper from a wide-angle.

Hywel Davies up the other end had a similar opportunity as Benjamin Vincent found him with a pass in the box, but Craig Morris blocked at his near post.

Ammanford had a number of calls for a penalty with their strongest being a push from Jerome Maynard on new recruit Luke Borrelli.

Neither goalkeepers had much to deal with as the two went into the break goalless.

Frater – Ammanford’s attacking outlet for most of the hour – drove a free-kick over Matthews bar in another opportunity.

A number of full-blooded challenges were being made by Ammanford players as they

Matthews had to be alert to Frater’s header at the near post as Rhys Fisher went short from the corner.

Robinson’s first real act of note was putting a free-kick from 25-yards-out just past the post.

Forkuoh earned his side a penalty five minutes after coming off the bench as he was brought down in the box by a last-ditch foul.

Robinson squeezed home the penalty, despite Matthews opting for the right direction and placement.

In search of an immediate response after not troubling Morris throughout the match, David Lyons’ acrobatic effort went behind from Jack Harvey’s free-kick.

Ammanford had their second goal with Forkuoh involved again, as Caerau were undone by a counter-attack once more.

Forkuoh’s free-run at goal forced Matthews to run out, with the Ammanford sub evading him, he was unable to score but Bridgeman’s attempted block deflected off of Gavin Jones for Ammanford’s second.

Jones’ goal was the last action of the game as Ammanford celebrated a sweet late victory.
