Bangor 1876 forward Les Davies set to move for a move to Flint Town United

Flint Town United look set to complete the signing of Bangor 1876 forward Les Davies.

The 35-year-old spent last season in the Gwynedd League with phoenix club Bangor, scoring 16 goals in 18 appearances as they claimed the league title.

Bangor 1876 are currently unable to play competitive fixtures, meanwhile, Flint are four games into the 2020/21 Cymru Premier season.

Davies could be seen as a direct replacement for Alex Titchiner, who sustained an injury in the Silkmen’s 1-0 defeat to Barry Town United on Saturday.

In a club statement released by Davies’ current club, Bangor 1876 said: “There is shock news this lunchtime that Les Davies is to sign for Welsh Premier team, Flint Town United, and will probably find himself in their squad for the match against Caernarfon Town tomorrow evening.

“Like many players, Les has found the long period without competitive football extremely frustrating and, with his extensive experience of playing at the top level, has found the opportunity to get back into match action too attractive to miss at this time.

“It was late last night that both Les and the Club first came to know about Flint’s interest and following discussions between the player and 1876 management it was agreed that we would not stand in his way even though he will be sadly missed.

The situation we found ourselves in resulted from the differences between the way in which Clubs in the lower tiers are treated compared with Tier One clubs in the face of the Covid pandemic which results in an inequitable situation in relation to offering playing opportunities.

“Obviously we wish Les well down the coast.

In an 18-year playing career, he has played for a host of clubs in the Welsh top flight including Bangor City, Caernarfon Town, Connah’s Quay and Llandudno.

Having played for a handful of teams in the Welsh top flight, he has accumulated 123 goals in over 400 appearances.

Bangor-born Davies was once nominated for the UEFA Player of the Year award.
