Newtown battled from behind to defeat Flint Town United 3-2 at Latham Park.

Nick Rushton and Tyrone Ofori scored two goals in two minutes to change the complexion of the game after Flint led twice after goals from Callum Bratley and Richie Foulkes with Neil Mitchell cancelling out Bratley’s.

The result lifts the Robins three points away from the relegation zone meanwhile Flint’s barren run continues.

The visitors looked the more dangerous side in the opening ten minutes. Flint had a chance early on but a free-kick which was taken by Wes Baynes went high over the bar.

After being the more dangerous side in the early stages, thee visitors took the lead in the twelfth minute as Callum Bratley’s left-sided strike went past Dave Jones.

A poor free-kick from Jon Danby gave Newtown a chance to level the score, but the resulted shot on goal was saved comfortably.

The hosts looked destined to pull the score level at they did as Nick Rushton’s cross from the right side of the pitch found the left side of the goal and the game was all to play for once again!

The second half started a bit more equally with Newtown seemingly finding their feet a bit more.

Early into the second half, a block from a Newtown defender was deflected onto the feet of visiting captain Foulkes who slotted it home to restore the visitor’s lead.

Flint were close to getting their third after Alex Jones’ footwork put him in a good position to score, but the ball went just wide of the left-hand post.

Two goals in quick in quick succession for Newtown put them ahead in the middle of the second half, a lovely header from Nick Rushton and a moment of mad defending gave Tyrone Ofori the chance to bag the Robins’ third.

Late on in the game the Flint players furiously appealed for a penalty after what seemed to be a handball in the box, but the calls were waved away.

The full-time whistle blew and there ended a high-entertaining game that could have gone either way!
