Haverfordwest County 0-3 Flint Town United: Silkmen end seven-game losing run with sublime performance

Flint, Wales. 26 September 2020. JD Cymru Premier match between Flint Town United and Barry Town United

Flint Town United ended their losing run by emphatically beating an ill-disciplined Haverfordwest County 3-0 at the Bridge Meadow Stadium.

Second-half goals from Conor Harwood and substitute Ben Steer added to Alex Jones’ opener as the Silkmen put the Bluebirds to the sword.

The hosts ended the game with nine men after Kieran Lewis was shown a straight red card, as well as Alaric Jones’ two yellow cards. Flint also ended the field with one less player as Wes Baynes was shown two yellow cards.

Flint dominated the opening half with goalkeeper John Danby untroubled in their goal, meanwhile, Mark Cadwallader was an outstanding as a link in midfield, setting up Callum Brately and Connor Harwood with regularity.

The opening goal was nothing more than the visitors deserved, Alex Jones fired into an empty net after Matt Turner let a cross slip away from him on the wet surface.

Haverfordwest looked lethargic and disorganised in their performance meanwhile Flint were the opposite and not like a side on a poor run of form.

The second half started with no changes, it took just five minutes for the Silkmen to double their lead as Harwood danced through the home defence to guide a left-footed shot beyond an advancing Turner.

In a change to their shape, Jack Wilson and Kurtis Rees were introduced for Corey Shephard and Mark Jones.

Moments later however, Jones was made to rip up his playbook as Alaric Jones was shown a second yellow card for pulling back Conor Harwood.

Nathan Craig was able to force Turner into a save from the resulting free-kick as they tried to make the most of the man advantage.

Flint were in control in every aspect of the game, showing speed and belief, as they left the home side in their wake. Mark Cadwallader was a dynamic outlet all game, with Callum Brately also to the fore.

Trystan Jones came on for a battle-worn home skipper Sean Pemberton as the visiting back line easily dealt with Haverfordwest’s fifty-yard balls.

The only dampener for Flint in their performance was when the experienced Baynes was red carded.

Baynes pulled back Ben Fawcett after earlier being booked for time-wasting in the 26th minute.

However, Kieran Lewis received a straight red card after he lunged recklessly in on Alex Jones.

The coup de grace came from substitute Steer who followed up a through ball and a hesitant Turmern made a tame challenge which saw Steer sidefoot in his sides third goal.
