Curtis Woodhouse emerges as candidate for Cefn Druids post

Cefn Mawr, Wrexham, Wales. 26 September 2020. JD Cymru Premier match between Cefn Druids and Cardiff Metropolitan University.

Curtis Woodhouse has emerged as a prospective candidate for the vacant Head Coach role at the Cefn Druids.

The Ancients are in search of a replacement for Bruno Lopes after parting company with the Portuguese coach last week and could now turn to England for a successor.

Woodhouse is understood to have been in talks at The Rock with the Druids hierarchy before their 3-1 defeat to Bala Town on Saturday.

The defeat left the Cefn-Mawr-based side bottom of the Cymru Premier, however, relegation may not come into effect in the Welsh top flight should the Cymru North and South not have their elite status reinstated in a timely manner.

“I’m on my way to Wales this morning. I always fancied a crack at Europe,” tweeted the former Birmingham City and Sheffield United midfielder.

He later added: “There was lots of really good stuff and the setup was fantastic. I must say I was very impressed.”

Last month, Woodhouse parted company with Gainsborough Trinity due to financial constraints. He has since pursued other opportunities and publicly admitted that he had applied for a job in Scotland last week.

The NPL Premier Division was curtailed with Gainsborough in the top ten of the division under the guidance of the former British champion boxer.

Prior to managing the Lincolnshire-based side, he had spells at Sheffield, Google, Hull United, Bridlington Town, and Tadcaster Albion.

Currently in caretaker charge is Jayson Starkey who has overseen the last three matches following the absence of Bruno Lopes before his departure. He will continue in his role until a successor is found. The Druids take on The New Saints at Park Hall on Tuesday, who are also without a manager following the sacking of the Druids.

First-team coach Dave Taylor, who had been a long servant for the Druids also reached a mutual agreement over a departure from the Wrexham club. His departure allows for the next prospective coach to implement their own coaching staff.
