Cardiff Met made a triumphant return to football after over three months off with a 4-0 win over Briton Ferry at Old Road.

Pinder scores on her return

Robyn Pinder re-joined Cardiff Met from Keynsham Town Ladies on Thursday ahead of the return of WPWL action.

It only took the former captain 14 minutes to notch her first goal back in Met colours, turning in an Erin Murray rebound.

She thought that she’d grabbed her second of the afternoon just before the break when she fired past the Ferry keeper, but the flag had been raised.

Super Sup Preece

Youngster Ellie Preece scored a quickfire brace from the bench late on in the second half.

She replaced Shannon Evans just after the hour mark to make her league debut.

Her first goal was a brilliant low drive past Courtney Young five minutes from time. She got her second five minutes later, displaying her composure to slot it past Young.

It was a case of Déjà vu for Preece as she scored a brace in her only other game for the Archers, against the same opponents but in the league cup back in December.

More debuts

It wasn’t just Preece making her maiden league appearance for the Students.

Pinder was replaced by another former Keynsham player, Amber Roberts on 57 minutes for her Met debut.

Annabel Sweeney also made her entrance on 76 minutes, replacing Charlotte Smith between the sticks.

Positives to take for Berry

Despite losing 4-0, Briton Ferry manager Isaac Berry will have positives to take from the game.

His side were able to limit Met’s chances for the most part in the second half.

They also improved up front after Caitlin Owen was moved out wide and Chelsea Decan deployed as the central forward.

After the change they looking much more likely to score than they did in the first 45 minutes.

Cardiff Met still top

Kerry Harris’ side entered Sunday’s game in top spot on goal difference and finished top of the table on goal difference.

They are currently on +20, one goal ahead of closest rivals Swansea (+19).

However, the Swans have played a game less than Met, and Abergavenny, who are three points behind, have played two games less.
