Cyncoed Ladies have announced a merger with Pontypridd Town and will be going by the name Pontypridd Town Women AFC from the start of next season.

The existing Pontypridd Ladies, who currently play in the SWWGL, will become the Pontypridd Town Women Development team.

Both Cyncoed and Pontypridd played their games at USW Sports Park meaning this is the latest step the collaboration between both clubs.

The Club’s statement said: “We are delighted to merge the Club and become the Women’s First Team of Pontypridd Town AFC.

“We are incredibly proud of the journey that Cyncoed have been on and this is a hugely exciting next chapter.

Fern Burrage-Male, Cyncoed Ladies’ Director of Football added: “We’ve been reviewing our Club’s brand and identity for a number of seasons and looking for a suitable match.

“This is by no means a takeover. This is a collaboration. An exciting partnership that creates a Super Club in the area enabling women and girls’ football to thrive.”

“Pontypridd already have a well-established junior girl’s section and this merger brings our First Team, our U19’s and the existing Pontypridd Town Ladies team together under one umbrella.”

In addition, the collaboration will give girls in the Rhondda Cynon Taff area an opportunity to play football locally.

In 2015 Cyncoed were promoted to the Welsh Premier Women’s League and have established themselves in the division since.

This season under new head coach Charlie Mitchell they finished 6th in the WPWL.

They beat Cascade YC 3-0 in their final game under the Mighty Oaks name on Sunday.

To date, their greatest success is winning the 2017/18 League Cup, defeating Cardiff Met 1-0 in the final at Dragon Park.

Pontypridd Women have released this video on their social media highlighting the history of Cyncoed Ladies.
