Antonio Corbisiero has been appointed as the new manager of Cymru Premier outfit Aberystwyth Town.

He succeeds Gavin Allen, who he had been working under as his assistant manager. Allen left his post last month but remains as their Head of Youth.

The 38-year-old takes charge of his hometown team after featuring for them as a player, before coaching into coaching.

Corbisiero made 68 top flight appearances for Aberystwyth, featuring in the Welsh Cup final in 2014 as well as playing in the Europa League with the Black and Greens.

Commenting on his appointment, he said: I am very proud and honoured to be given the opportunity to manage my hometown club. I am extremely excited to get going and do all I can with my coaching team to get the best out of each individual to perform at their highest ability.

The Exmouth-born midfielder added: “Myself and the coaching team have been working extremely hard to put everything in place ready for pre-season and the upcoming season.

“We thank all our supporters for sticking with us behind the walls and on the bus, and we look forward to seeing you back in the ground, cheering on the Black and Greens before too long.”

His appointment was backed by club chairman Donald Kane, who praised his newest manager: “Corbs’ appointment retains our all-local management structure and we are sure that the young talented players in our squad will go on to achieve bigger and better things at the club in the future, with the support and guidance of Corbs and his management team.

I would add that the Board of Directors unanimously supported Antonio’s appointment and we will work hard over the summer to ensure he has all the support he needs in preparation for the 2021/22 campaign.”
