Pick your 2020/21 Welsh Premier Women’s League ‘Team of the Season’
Y Clwb Pêl-droed are running an end-of-season vote to decide this season’s Welsh Premier Women’s League awards.
The 2020/21 season was played to its full conclusion as well as a League Cup campaign, despite a three-month hiatus from December to March.
Swansea City qualified for the UEFA Women’s Champions League as they retained their crown after winning the title on a points-per-game basis last season.
It was a closely fought title race and the destination of the trophy wasn’t decided until the final day. Cardiff Met led the Swans but a goalless draw against Abergavenny earned the Llandarcy side the league.
Under the guidance of Colin Staples they also claimed a League Cup win, beating Cardiff City at Dragon Park.
At the other end, newcomers Cascade Ladies finished above bottom spot in their first season in the Welsh top flight.
Individually, it was Chloe O’Connor who led the goalscoring charts to claim the Golden Boot. She made a triumphant return to the league by scoring 15 goals after re-signing with the Archers last summer.
Swansea City’s Stacey John-Davis was hot on her toes with 14 goals in 15 appearances. Perhaps the contender for Young Player of the Year, Phoebie Poole, who began the campaign as a 16-year-old, scored 13 goals in her first season of top-flight football.

Despite the entirety of the season being played behind-closed-doors, it could be said that the league grew in stature and received maximum exposure.
For the first time, Welsh language broadcaster S4C aired the opening day clash between Cardiff City and Swansea City on television.
They then aired highlights of a selected match on their show, as well as live streaming the title-clash between Cardiff Met and Swansea in April.
Cardiff Met Sport TV also aired three of Cardiff Met’s fixtures on YouTube, as well as Cardiff City players having the privilege of playing against Briton Ferry Llansawel at the Cardiff City Stadium.
As the league only consists of eight players, the amount of players included in polling will be reduced. Discussions have taken place with clubs for them to suggest players in voting.
Up to 13 contributors at Y Clwb Pêl-droed also watched the WPWL season and have added their opinions.
