Hull City coach takes up the reins at Haverfordwest County

Haverfordwest County have appointed former Hull City coach Tony Pennock as their new first-team manager.

After an eight-year association with the Tigers, mainly working as a coach, Pennock sought an opportunity to become his own manager and has now landed at the Bridge Meadow.

Pennock, who managed the Wales semi-professional team, as well as Port Talbot Town and a brief stint at Aberystwyth Town, has returned to the Welsh domestic game after five years away.

The Bluebirds had been on the search for a new manager following the departure of Nicky Hayen to Club Brugge and after an 11 day search, they have decided the 51-year-old is the best candidate to lead them forward.

Commenting on Pennock’s appointment, chairman Rob Edwards said on their official club website: “We were blessed with the number and quality of applicants for the role, but Tony was somebody that stood out at the beginning and really impressed us during the process.

“He has had an excellent career as a player and coach, with the latter being at a very high level, and I’m certain he can continue the good work over the last six months and help drive us forward further.

“I am really looking forward to working with somebody of Tony’s calibre. I also want to thank the Board for their support during this process.”

During his time on Humberside, he worked with former Bangor City manager Nigel Adkins, as well as Grant McCann and ex-Russia national team boss Leonid Slutsky.

He oversaw the development of Keane Lewis-Potter, who has been tipped for a move to the Premier League with Brentford, as well as Jarrod Bowen who has recently represented the England national team after a good season with West Ham United.

As well as his coaching career, Pennock played for 20 years and turned out for Carmarthen Town, Neath Athletic, Port Talbot, and Aberaman Athletic.

He mainly played for Yeovil Town, making 236 appearances between 1995 and 2001.
