Cardiff Met 3-1 Aberystwyth Town: Archers aiming to retain Adran Trophy

Cardiff Met stay on course to retain the Adran Trophy after a 3-1 win over Aberystwyth Town at Cyncoed Campus. The holders set a repeat of last years final as they booked their place to play Cardiff City.

Ellie Preece opened the scoring after 10 minutes as Met looked to take the game to Aber. Tija Richardson made it two for Met after 42 minutes as the holders went into half time in the lead. Emily Allen added the third after 47 minutes giving the visitors a mammoth task to get back into the game. Aber kept going and in the 51st Amy Jenkins pulled one back for the Seasiders but they were unable to find any m ore goals.

Cardiff Met will look forward to a City derby as they go though to face Cardiff City in the final. Aber will now move now to next week’s FAW Welsh Cup semi final when they face Briton Ferry Llansawel.


Met went straight on the front foot and Aber keeper Elen Valentine was forced to make a clearance when Ellie Preece looked to capitalise on a poor back pass.

Tija Richardson’s sent an early effort wide of the target and then broke into the boke but Kelly Thomas made a vital tackle to stop her run.

Met did have the ball in the net as it was tapped in from close range from Emily Allen’s effort but the flag was up. Allen’s effort had looked to be going in and didn’t need touching.

Bethan Roberts sent a ball over the Met defence looking for Modlen Gwynne, but Amelia Forkings was out to clear.

Ellie Preece opening the scoring for Met in the tenth minute when she took advantage of a mix up in the Aber defence. Preece made no mistakes with her well taken effort past Valentine.

Met kept the pressure on and Robyn Pinder’s close range effort was saved by Valentine. The ball fell to Allen but she fired over.

Tija Richardson put a good cross into the six yard box for Elen Murray. Murray had space and the goal open but put her header over the bar.

Preece had another chance as she again made the most of a mix up in the Aber defence. Latching onto the lose ball she fired a shot at Valentine but she made a fine save from close range.

Emily Preece turned provider when her ball into the box was headed in by Tija Richardson.

Half Time: Cardiff Met 2-0 Aberystwyth

Met made a fast start to the second half moving the ball around the pitch and stretching Aber’s defensive lines. Emily Allen hitting a powerful shot from the edge of the box after receiving the ball from Richardson.

Aber didn’t cave and soon had a goal back when Amy Jenkins hit a rocket of a shot into the net.

Met went looking to restore the three goal lead as Robyn Pinder made a good run down the left and put the ball into the box for Emily Allen. Allen had a shot but put it over the bar.

Erin Murray put in a dangerous cross which gave Met two efforts at goal. Elen Valentine making a important double save.

Robyn Pinder tried to chip one over the keeper but her effort went over the bar.

Late on Bethan Roberts tried a shot from outside the box but it lacked power and was easy for Forkings.
