As-it-happened: Briton Ferry 5-2 Trefelin BGC – Welsh Blood League Cup

Briton Ferry Llansawel booked their place in the Welsh Blood Service League Cup Final with a 5-2 win over local rivals Trefelin. On a wet night at Old Road Briton Ferry raced into a three goal lead before Trefelin stuck twice before half time. Two second half goals from Ferry were enough to secure a place in the final against either Ynyshir Albions or Barry Town.

Kris Evans opened the scoring in the first minute as Briton Ferry started well. Luke Bowen added a second after 10 minutes and Tyler Brock got his first of two in the 20th minute. Trefelin didn’t lay down however and Roan Piper got them a goal back on 29 minutes. Matthew Beynon closed the gap to one goal in first half stoppage time. Nine minutes into the second half and Cullen Kinsella made it 4-2. In the 69th minute Tyler Brock added his second of the game to make it 5-2.


Ferry went straight on the offence and Andrew Davies was forced to concede an early corner. Cullen Kinsella swing the ball into the six yard area and Kris Evans rose above everyone to head over the keeper.

Briton Ferry kept the pressure on and soon had a second goal. Jack Hurley with a ball over the Trefelin defence which was brought down by Luke Bowen. In behind the defence Bowen fired past the keeper.

Trefelin did have a chance to pull a goal back. The home side unable to fully clear from a free kick the ball fell to Regan Cockings. Cockings had two goes at scoring the first being blocked and the second finding the side netting.

Tyler Brock added a third thanks to a mistake at the back for Trefelin. Brock latching on to a stay pass and firing low past the keeper.

It could have been even better for the host’s when Bowen’s powerful drive came back off the post.

Trefelin soon pulled a goal back as they were able to get the ball into Roan Piper. Piper held off Kris Evans before hitting a powerful shot past Rhys Wilson.

Just before half time and Trefelin were well and truly back in the game. Matthew Beynon striking from 20 yards with a powerful shot.

Bowen went close for Ferry early into the second half with his glancing header. Declan Evans putting the ball into the box but Bowen’s header went just wide.

Ferry again were putting the visitors under pressure and on 52 minutes it told. Cullen Kinsella firing in to take the score to 4-2.

Trefelin had a good chance to get another goal as a good ball into the box found Roan Piper. Piper flicked the ball towards goal but it was saved.

Tyler Brock put the game to bed with his second goal in the 69th minute. Picking up the ball outside the box Brock went past a defender and fired a low shot Past Cavalcante.

With a final place awaiting for the winners against either Barry or Ynyshir both teams will be doing everything to secure a win.
