Cardiff Met progressed to the semi-finals of the Welsh Cup as they beat Colwyn Bay 3-2 at Cyncoed Campus.

A late flurry of goals saw the Archers come from behind to defeat the Seagulls having initially taken the lead. Sam Jones opened the scoring but Dan Jones equalised and then on the hour mark Uodyen Akpan put the visitors in front. Sam Jones netted his second goal of the game and then with 10 minutes remaining Lewis Rees scored the decisive goal.

Met will now wait for Wednesday’s draw where they will play one of Bala Town, Connah’s Quay and TNS at a neutral venue.

Met started the game the better side and favourites for the game as Lewis Rees rattled the crossbar in the opening stages which provided a warning for the away side.

Moments later CJ Craven had an effort of his own as he had his effort go just wide from outside the area.

The flurry of met attacks continued as Sam Jones had a header from just inside the area get saved by Smith in the Colwyn goal.

As chance kept on coming for the home side a goal soon came as Thomas Price, Eliot Evans, and Sam Jones all linked up together as Jones slotted his shot underneath the keeper to give the archers the lead.

Met had a set-pieces during the game as Tom Price delivered a sweet ball to the back post as Emlyn Lewis had his effort cleared off the line.

Moments after the Lewis effort it was Sam Jones who could have doubled the archers’ lead as Smith was forced to make a great stop to deny Ryan Jenkins’s side.

Smith was sprung into action again as Price found Rees in the penalty area as the Met forward could have helped improve the Met lead.

The home side controlled the first half but a mix-up at the back cost them as Sam Jones played a ball back to Lang but it was intercepted by Dan Jones who slotted it into an empty net.

In the closing stages of the half Eliot Evans was booked for a tug on the shirt of a Colwyn player.

After controlling the first half Met could not get close to Colwyn Bay as just past the hour mark the away side took the lead.

Daniel Atkins played a looping ball to Akpan as he found himself just on the edge of the area as he fired his effort onto the post and into the back of the net.

After going behind, Met tried to find a response and they did as Kyle Mccarthy was on the edge of the area as he played a ball to the back post to Sam Jones who slotted it home.

Ryan Jenkins’s side were looking to regain the lead and it soon came from a set-piece as Eliot Evans delivered a dangerous ball in the area as Lewis Rees headed home.

The home side were looking to secure the tie when Eliot Evans had his free kick hit the crossbar in the closing minutes.

Colwyn had one chance left in the last action of the game as Thomas Mccready had a free kick on the edge of the area saved by Alex Lang.

An exhilarating game at Cyncoed campus ended in the home side reaching the semi-finals as the draw takes place on Wednesday 21st February.
