Wales star Jordan James looks set to make a return from injury after a spell out injured with EFL Championship side Leicester City.

The 21-year-old has spent the past five weeks sidelined with a hamstring injury, missing seven matches for the Foxes.

His absence proved significant, with Marti Cifuentes dismissed at the end of January, just five days after James was forced off during the 1-1 draw with Wrexham.

A huge match awaits Wales when they host Bosnia & Herzegovina in the FIFA World Cup Play-Off Semi-Final at the Cardiff City Stadium on March 26. James’ imminent return is welcomed, given how important he is to the team.

Leicester City boss posts Wales midfielder update

A big test awaits Leicester when they host Norwich City in one of Saturday’s early kick-offs on February 28.

The East Midlands side, relegated from the Premier League last season, currently sit in the relegation zone, one point adrift of safety following a six-point deduction.

Despite his injury, James has remained Leicester’s top scorer this season, registering nine goals and three assists in 24 appearances.

James struck in consecutive weeks against Welsh opposition – Wrexham and Swansea City – in late September and early October, but it has otherwise been a frustrating campaign. His contributions have not been enough to lift Leicester clear of trouble, with the Foxes currently embroiled in a relegation battle.

James, the on-loan Rennes midfielder, is being considered for a swift return, but if he does not feature this weekend, he could instead be in line to make his comeback against Ipswich Town on March 7.

“We are looking at Saturday, but we are also looking at the games after that,” said manager Gary Rowett, speaking to BBC Radio Leicester.

“But those two would be important players to get back in the squad, so if we can do that safely, we will.

“I might have to put a few medical people’s arms behind their back tomorrow and see if I can sway that decision.”

Key figure for Cymru

James remains a key figure for both club and country, earning 21 caps for Wales since making his senior debut under Rob Page in March 2023.

He missed the 7-1 victory over North Macedonia after picking up a yellow card in the 1-0 win against Liechtenstein, a match in which he scored his first international goal.

Under Bellamy, James has started eight of the 16 matches in charge, missing just two – both through suspension.
