Shane Sutton has left Newtown after a nine year stay with club after agreeing a move to join National League North side AFC Telford.
The talismanic captain has been a fan’s favourite throughout the years and will no doubt be a big loss to the club. He is widely regarded as on the best centre-halves in the league.

The former Wales U17 and U23s, joined Newton from Shrewsbury back in 2007 and has been a regular in the Robins’ startling 11 since his move. The tall and commanding defender racked up more than 200 appearances in the Welsh Premier League.
Speaking to the Newtown website following the news is Chris Hughes, the current Robins’ boss.
He said:” We are obviously disappointed to lose Shane (Sutton), he has been a massive figure for us in recent years”
“He has been a fantastic servant to this football club, and he is a big loss for us.”
The player himself said his goodbyes to everyone involved with the club, mentioning how it was difficult to leave the club but the club missing out on Europe was the reason for him to leave as he wanted to test himself in the English leagues.
“My contract was all sorted for next season and I was really looking forward to it, it would have been my 10th with the club. An old friend from when I was at Shrewsbury got hold of me and said the Telford manager had asked for my number.”
The disappointment of not getting into Europe played a factor. I want to be playing in the biggest games I possibly can, in front of big crowds.”
Thanks to everyone connected to the club, all fans, players, staff, and board members who I worked with over the nine years.”
