Robins’ reversible kit receives acclaim from French and Italian press

At the end of October, Welsh Premier League side Newtown revealed their brand new reversible shirt, and the story has now crossed the channel and reached the French and Italian press; who both praised the idea.

French tabloid L’Equipe began by saying: “The Welsh Premier League club had the brilliant idea to produce a reversible home-outdoor jersey.”

The Robins currently sit fifth in the JD Welsh Premier League, winning six of their opening 13 games.

Explaining the decision, finance director Barry Gardner spoke about the shirt sales, saying that the club do not sell “more than 20 shirts a year”.

Gardner described it as “an innovation for the fans”.

This international coverage will no doubt help raise the profile of the Latham Park side, who’s tweet revealing the shirt has received over 700 likes.

The club is charging £35 for the garment, and enquires can be made by emailing office@newtownafc.co.uk.

The French paper continued: “It’s not a marketing genius behind this innovation, but a combination of circumstances.”

The story was also picked up by Italian outlet NSS Magazine.

The magazine were complimentary of the idea: “The initiative of the Welsh club has left us speechless: in this way it becomes absolutely superfluous to buy both sweaters, but only one is enough.”

Commenting on the price of the shirt, the fashion magazine went on to say: “The price of the double knit, produced in a limited edition, is absolutely ridiculous: only 35 pounds.”

The Robins face basement side Llanelli Town this Saturday, kick-off is at 14:30.
