Driscoll laments discipline as Llwydcoed see red in defeat to STM Sports

STM Sports vs. AFC Llwydcoed

AFC Llwydcoed manager Matthew Driscoll lamented his side’s discipline, claiming it is “killing us”, after the Rhondda side received another red card in Saturday’s defeat to STM Sports.

Goals from Josh Graham, Ben Ah-Mun, Dale Gardiner, Marcus Jones and Andy Gardiner helped claim a 5-0 win for STM, as they completed the double over 15th-placed Llwydcoed.

The defeat left Llwydcoed in the bottom two and Driscoll believes that they can pull away from danger, starting with this weekend’s home game against Croesyceiliog.

We’ve got Croesyceiliog next week and (when) we played Croesyceiliog away, we should have won, it was 3-3.

Two goalkeeping errors cost us, but it depends what team’s turns up with us, we played Croesyceiliog; we drew, we played Pontardawe; we drew.

We played Monmouth, we deserved to win and then we played Dinas Powys who are down the bottom and we were awful, so I just don’t know what team will turn up each week.

Driscoll made clear what he thinks the formula for survival will be: “I think if we can get eleven players which are not banned or injured I think we can pull out of it.

So if we can pick up points against the lesser teams, no disrespect but the STMs and your teams at the top, it’s going to be difficult.” He said.

I think we have the quality, it’s just our discipline that is killing us. Absolutely killing us.

Jordan Ellis was sent off with the score at 1-0, not long after Graham had scored from the penalty spot, Driscoll felt this changed the game.

(I) had a chat with the referee about the penalty.” He said.

Looking at the challenge, I didn’t think it was a penalty myself, he (referee) looked to the linesman for his decision, the linesman didn’t give the decision and he took it upon himself.

Jordan is obviously our midfield energy and when he went off, there were gaps.” He said.

Playing against these with eleven men is difficult, but when we are playing with ten it was really hard because they do like to play football and they will find the gaps.

Driscoll admitted that he was praying for rain, something which may have affected STM Sports: To be honest I was hoping it would rain more, because it would have put them off their game.” He said honestly.

Coming down here on a 4G they are quality, and to be honest I think they will go up this year with the players they’ve got and rightly so.”

They are nice guys, Dale (Gardiner) is a top bloke and I wish them all the best.
