Citizens announce “substantial offer” made for key players Stephens and Darlington

Bangor City have announced that the club has received a “substantial offer” from Maltese club Mosta FC for their captain Anthony Stephens and forward Alex Darlington.

The Nantporth side made the announcement via their official Twitter account.

Stephens arrived at the club in the summer, following his departure from top flight side Bala Town.

Darlington has been at Bangor since January of last year, joining from The New Saints whom he spent 10 years with.

Mosta, who were founded in 1935, currently sit 11th in the 14-team BOV Premier League; the highest tier of football in Malta.

The club, nicknamed Tar-Rotunda, have been ever-presents in the Maltese Premier League since gaining promotion in the 2010/11 season.

The statement continued: “No agreement has yet been made between the two clubs or two players.”

The Citizens are preparing to face ninth-placed Buckley Town tomorrow (January 5) in the Huws Gray Alliance, knowing that a win will see them leapfrog Porthmadog into second place.

Darlington, who began his career with Wrexham, has been in fine goal-scoring form this season, netting 12 goals in 13 appearances to date.

The 30-year-old is the current top scorer in North Wales’ top-tier league, ahead of Flint Town United’s Mark Cadwallader (11) and Ruthin Town’s Llyr Morris (10).

The former Welsh Premier League champions are under new management, after Gary Taylor-Fletcher, who was assistant manager last season, took over in November following the departure of Craig Harrison.

  1. This is the club that Vaughan Junior went to ruin … errr … run. So losing the players is one thing – getting the money is something else completely.
