Cardiff Metropolitan secured their first Cymru Premier win of the season after defeating Penybont 3-1 at the the KYMCO Stadium this evening.

Will Evans headed home the opener from Dylan Rees’s corner as half-time approached before Dylan Rees’s penalty and a brilliant solo goal from Mael Davies ensured the Met picked up three points.

Luke Borrelli’s penalty proved to be a consolation as Penybont continue the search for their first win of the season after their second consecutive home defeat.

Rhys Griffiths’s men made one change from their 2-1 defeat to Barry Town United last Friday, while the Met came into the game unchanged and it was Evans who came the closest to open the scoring midway through the first half.

A poor back pass allowed the attacker a free run at goal, with his shot from 30 yards sailing well over the crossbar.

Christian Edwards’s men went even closer after Eliot Evans saw his shot cleared off the line following a goal mouth scramble, forcing a corner.

From the resulting set-piece the Students took the lead as Rees’s delivery found the head of Evans, whose deft flick found the back of the net as Met went into half-time a goal to the good.

Griffiths’s side started the second half well and went close to equalising after Kane Owen’s pass found Dan Griffiths, who arrived from the edge of the box and saw his shot saved onto the post by Will Fuller.

The save proved to be the turning point as Eliot Evans’s shot hit the hand of Dan Summerfield to allow Rees to score from the spot, despite Wilson getting a touch.

It was the right-back’s second successful penalty of the season, after he converted against Progres Niederkorn in the Europa League qualifying round.

Nathan Wood went close for the hosts after his effort was cleared off the line following a corner, before Davies made it three after being allowed a clear passage of goal.

However Bont would have the final word as second-half substitute Borrelli sent Fuller the wrong way to give the majority of the 346 crowd something to smile about.
