Barry Town United were given a deadline day boost as they announced the return of striker Momodou Touray on loan from Newport County.

The 22-year-old spent impressed during a season-long loan spell at Jenner Park last season, and has recently been on trial with National League side Torquay United.

Touray netted 13 times in 31 appearances for Gavin Chesterfield’s side in 2018/19, forming a strong partnership with Kayne McLaggon, and his return will no doubt excite Linnets fans.

Barry have made a positive start to the inaugural Cymru Premier season, sitting joint top with Cardiff Metropolitan after winning three and drawing one of their opening four encounters.

While the side haven’t struggled for goals thus far, averaging two a game, the return of Touray will be a big boost to their aspirations of repeating last season’s success.

The Dragons had been widely tipped to replicate their third-placed finish which they achieved in just their second season back in the top flight, with summer signings such as Jack Compton, Keyon Reffell and Luke Cummings adding to an already talented squad.

And now the arrival of a 10 plus goal-a-season striker will only strengthen their prospects as they look to build on their unbeaten start.

Barry were right in contention for the most unlikeliest of triumphs for much of last season, before their challenge understandably fell away towards the back end of the season.

The depth of the squad was probably not quite where a title-winning outfit needed to be, something which those behind the scenes have addressed over the summer, and they now appear to be in a stronger position to sustain another challenge.

Kayne McLaggon has done an admirable job in the first four games, shouldering responsibility as the line striker, netting three times, and he perhaps more than anyone will be delighted to see Touray back at Jenner Park.
