Colwyn Bay 1-2 Llandudno: Derby delight for Dudno as Williams nets winner

Marc Williams gave Llandudno the bragging rights as they defeated Colwyn Bay 2-1 at the Four Crosses Construction Arena in the JD Cymru North.

The home side were on top in the first half. Going ahead through a fantastic strike from James Kirby. The visitors levelled through Evans before Marc Williams headed in the winner from a corner.

Llandudno remain in third as both Guilsfield and Airbus picked up victories on Saturday. Colwyn Bay’s table position is also unchanged in fifth, but the Seagulls are now ten points adrift of Llandudno.

The first chance of the game fell to the home side when Joseph Williams drove towards the Llandudno box. He unleashed a driven shot which flew just past the post.

With just under 20 minutes played, the home side were ahead. Captain Tom McCready floated a free kick over the Llandudno backline to find James James Kirby’s run. Kirby kept his eye on the ball and cut across it beautifully to send the ball into the far-left hand corner.

McCready was involved again on the half hour mark. He placed the ball down for a free kick. He t stepped up and hit it low towards the right-hand post. It looked set for the corner, but the post got in his way and Llandudno were able to clear.

Cai Owen produced a great bit of play with ten minutes of the first half to play. He stormed down the right-hand side and produced a fantastic cross into a very dangerous area. Unfortunately for the Bay, Bryant was unable to get on the end of it as despite stretching as far as he could.

Thomas Creamer was stretchered off five minutes into the second half which seemed to affect Bay’s performance.

With 60 minutes played, Llandudno drew level. Morgan Owen won a penalty for his side after being brought down in the area. Shaun Cavanagh missed the penalty but seconds later Gareth Evans tapped the ball in to make it 1-1.

The seasiders found themselves ahead just after the 70-minute mark thanks to a header from Marc Williams.

Both sides had a few efforts blocked with defenders putting their bodies on the line for their team.

Llandudno came close again with ten to play when Lee Thomas forced a good save from Andy Coughlin. He pushed the ball wide and it looked like Cavanagh would have a chance for a tap in but for some great defensive work that saw a last-ditch challenge to clear the ball away of danger.

Colwyn Bay had a few late corners as they piled the pressure on their visitors, but they were unbale to create any clear chances in the later stages of the game.

Llandudno worked hard until the end to come away with a well fought derby day victory.
