Swansea University claimed their first Cymru South win since mid-August as they beat out-of-form Trefelin at Ynys Park.

Nathan Townsend opened the scoring after 24 minutes to give Swansea the lead. John Roberts doubled their advantage on 29 minutes as Swansea hit again.

Trefelin had most of the ball and made more chances in the first half but were unable to unlock the Swansea defence. Swansea looked dangerous on the break using the pace of Bruno Osorio.

The visitors were clinical when they did have chances hitting two quick goals to lead at the break. The second half saw waves of Trefelin attacks but Swansea compacted the pitch and denied their host space or time on the ball. Disciplined defending and use of counterattacks made sure Trefelin could not get back into the game.

The loss means Trefelin slip down to seventh in the Cymru South table. Swansea Uni remains in 11th but now level on points with Carmarthen Town in tenth.

Trefelin started quickly and Sean Hanbury received the ball out on the right. He cut inside to create some space and put a shot just over the bar.

The host were finding success of the right with Hanbury and it was from his cross that Damon Thomas took a shot that went just over.

Swansea Uni were looking to make use of Bruno Osorio’s pace and gave Trefelin a warning as he was played into space behind the defence. Trefelin were let off as the flag went up for offside.

Soon after Nathan Townsend shot wide from the edge of the area after a corner was only part cleared.

Trefelin had a golden chance to take the lead after 18 minutes. Hanbury playing a though ball for Thomas who was making his way into the box one on one with Luke Martin but the forward tripped and Swansea were able to clear.

Soon after Trefelin found themselves behind. Chris Curtis with a good save from the initial shot but he could do nothing about the rebound fired in by Townsend.

It was soon 2-0 as John Roberts picked up the ball on the edge of the box. The Swansea player then looped the ball over Curtis into the net.

Trefelin looked to get back into the game in the second half and had a good chance when Chris Jones tried to curl a shot in to the goal. Jones was unable to get enough curl on the ball to trouble Martin.

On 53 minutes Sean Hanbury had the chance to pull one back for Trefelin. A good cross into the six yard box saw Hanbury head towards goal from close range, but he couldn’t keep the header down and it went over.

Michael Waters forced a good stop from Martin as he cut in from from the left. Firing a shot at goal he couldn’t beat the Swansea keeper.

Callum Jones met a corner at the back post but his downwards header was straight at Martin.

Osorio had a chance to kill the game off when he was played in the box. However he hit his shot over from inside the box.

The home side sent waves of attacks but were met by a wall of blue shirts. Swansea were able to send back every ball that came near their box.
