Cardiff Met Women 4-0 Aberystwyth Town Women: Taylor O’Leary scores brace as Archers down Aber

Cardiff Met Women came out on top as the Archers won 4-0 over Aberystwyth Town Women at Cyncoed Campus in the Ardan Premier.

The early stage of the match were dominated by Cardiff Met Women as they were targeting the left side of the pitch as Walkley made a great run from the left and into the middle as she could not manage to fire a strike at goal.

Moments later following a long ball up top from Annabel Sweeney, Amy Long fired a left-footed chipped effort over the head of Ashman as she gave the Archers the lead.

This was Amy Long’s second of the season following a goal against Port Talbot Ladies earlier in the season.

Following the goal, the Archers continued to press as efforts from Amy Long and Laura May Walkley with the better as she fired an effort from outside the box that went just wide.

Cardiff Met had a fantastic opportunity to add a second as Emily Richards fired a free-kick into the box as Ashman came out and collected the ball following the delivery into the middle.

Taylor O’Leary tried the spectacular as she leaped up in the air as she attempted an overhead kick from 20 yards out as Ashman collected it calmly.

Aberystwyth had their best chance of the half as Josie Pugh hit a dangerous ball into the middle as Annabel Sweeney parried the ball away as the Archers cleared it away for a corner.

Met kicked off the second half as they pressed the final third of Aberystwyth in the early stages as a goal soon came.

Lucy Finch delivered a ball into the back post as Taylor O’Leary took one touch as she slotted her strike into the bottom right corner to double the Archers lead.

Aberystwyth responded by making all their substitutions as Sian Evans, Ffiona Evans and Lucie Gwilt all came off as they were replaced by Gwenllian Jones, Libby Isaac, and Hannah Pusey.

The substitutions nearly worked as Gwenllian Jones was intercepted by Tiggy Webb who prevented the attacker from going one on one with Annabel Sweeney.

Amy Long fired an effort from outside the box as her effort rattled the crossbar as she hoped to add a third goal for the Archers in the game.

A goal soon came a minute later as Taylor O’Leary fired a thunderbolt of a strike into the top left corner as Ffion Ashman just stood there as she saw it go past her.

This was her second goal in the match and her third of the season as she gave the home side a three-nil lead.

O’Leary nearly grabbed herself a hat-trick as she flicked up the ball for a half volley which went into the side netting from 15 yards out.

Ellie Preece replaced Grace Corne earlier in the match as Corne was injured, Preece secured a fourth goal as Laura May Walkley played through Ellie Preece who slotted home her strike from close range.

The result for the Archers keeps them in third place, three points behind Cardiff City Women FC, as for Aberystwyth Town Women they sit in fifth place on 12 points.
