Barry Town United have made former midfielder Jonathan Hood their first signing of the January transfer window.

Hood rejoins the club for a second spell after taking time out of the game after initially being unveiled a signing for Briton Ferry Llansawel last year.

Commenting on his return, he said to the official club website: ‘It’s been a long time coming, as you know I’ve played at the club before so I know there’s a great bunch of boys, supporters, and coaching staff at the club and I’m looking forward to working with Gav again.’

“The only thing we can look at right now is securing a top-six finish and then taking it one game at a time. I’m excited to get back with the boys again and try to be successful.”

In addition, first-team manager Gavin Chesterfield commented “Jon is an infectious character who I am delighted to welcome back to the club.

“He was hugely successful in his first stint with us; as a result of the experiences gained I feel he returns as a more mature player who is determined to make a big impact.”

The 30-year-old made 83 appearances for the Glamorgan-based side in the Cymru Premier, bringing an experience to the squad.

His exploits helped the club qualify for the Europa League and he was rewarded by playing in their two matches against Cliftonville.

Barry’s next scheduled match is an away fixture against Connah’s Quay which could be Hood’s debut.

Cymru Premier fixtures though are not in a structured format after the Football Association of Wales issued a return date of February 8.

Clubs were presented with two options on whether to resume the season behind closed doors or suspend football until February 6 which is after the Nathaniel MG Cup final.

The Linnets suggested whether fans would be allowed back at the next Welsh Government review, however recent comments from First Minister Mark Drakeford do not indicate a return for spectators in the next fortnight.
