Caernarfon Town 0-4 The New Saints: Saints further stretch their lead at Cymru Premier summit

The New Saints strolled to victory against Caernarfon Town as they further extended the gap at the top of the Cymru Premier.

Declan McManus’ wonder goal for the Saints got them up and running just before the half-hour mark before Ryan Brobbel, Adrian Cieslewicz and Jordan Williams netted in the second period.

The win puts them 17-points clear of Newtown and Flint, though the Silkmen do play tomorrow against Cardiff Met.

The visitors started the game on the front foot. As they often do, they dominated possession however lacked sharpness going towards goal. Caernarfon didn’t have much of the ball, but when they did, Noah Edwards was instrumental in creating chances and trying to stretch The New Saints defence.

Bobby Beaumont was lucky to stay off the pitch after a scuffle with Chris Marriott turned nasty. The game was screaming out for that bit of magic and up stepped Declan McManus in the 28th minute. The Scotsman notching his 19th goal of the season with a wonderful overhead kick which left Tyler French in goal stranded. Fantastic improvisation from McManus as the ball looked behind to put his team 1-0 ahead. The New Saints were one up going into the half.

The second half started much like the first. The New Saints dominating possession but not creating chances. Caernarfon looked dangerous on the counter, Noah Edwards and Sion Bradley looking the most likely however veteran keeper Paul Harrison didn’t have much to do in the goal.

Much like the first half, it was a moment of real quality that saw The New Saints make it 2-0 in the 56th minute. After a soft foul was given by the ref, Ryan Brobbel stepped up to take. A fantastic strike that had pace, precision, and accuracy found the top corner of the net. Tyler French for the second time in the game was left with no chance.

Caernarfon should have found themselves back in it 20 minutes into the second half. Danny Gossett’s run saw him bypass two defenders and find himself on the byline. He swung his cross and it found Hayes however, the striker could only find the waiting hands of Harrison, and the chance was gone. The game ended as a contest when substitute Adrian Cieslewicz scored the visitor’s third goal.

A counter-attack saw fellow sub Jordan Williams in acres of space, his cross found McManus who was denied by a wonderful save by French. However, the Caernarfon keeper was helpless to stop Cieslewicz from slotting into an empty net. The fourth goal came soon afterward. Youngster Jake Canavan found himself in space on the right-hand cross and delivered a sublime cross that found Jordan Williams unmarked and his header was beautifully placed into the bottom corner.

A thumping 4-0 victory for the league leaders as they take what seems to be an unassailable lead at the top of the table. Caernarfon will want to forget about this one in a hurry.

Next up for The New Saints are basement side Cefn Druids and they will be looking for another three points in that one. A vital game awaits Caernarfon as they travel to Maes Tegid to take on Bala in what could be a pivotal game in the race for the top six.
