Barry Town United 0-1 Briton Ferry Llansawel – Reds ruin Barry homecoming

Briton Ferry continued their perfect start to the season as they claimed a scalp against Barry Town United. 

Cullen Kinsella’s 28th-minute strike was the difference to give the Reds their third win of the campaign whilst Barry lose their first home at the recently relaid Jenner Park.

Andy Hill’s men remain top of the Cymru South with three wins from three whilst Barry are seventh with one win and two defeats.


A quick start from the visitors saw them gain a free kick on the edge of the Barry box. Tom Walters went for goal but his effort was straight at Mike Lewis.

Briton Ferry were happy to hit Barry on the break and allowed them a lot of the ball. On a quick counter attack Luke Bowen hit a shot straight at Lewis.

Barry a had a good chance to take the lead as Callum Sainty put the ball across goal. Drew Fahiya sliding in at the back post was just inches from connecting.

Jordan Cotterill found Kayne McLaggon in the box and the Barry captain turned and took a shot. His effort defected but went straight into the arms of Rhys Wilson.

Barry were having the better of the play and Callum Sainty was denied by a fine save from Wilson. Sainty getting the ball at the back post from a corner thought he gave his side the lead but for a fingertip, diving save from Wilson.

Soon after Luke Bowen saw his headed effort cleared off the line. The Ferry players claim for a penalty but the ref saw nothing wrong.

Ferry had a free kick which was sent across the field and headed towards goal by Walters. Luke Bowen guided the ball towards goal but Luke Cooper was on the line. Cooper was unable to clear and Cullen Kinsella came running in to tap in.

Barry tried to level before the break with McLaggon seeing an effort go straight at Wilson and Chris Hugh shooting over.

Barry took the game to their visitors from the off second half and had an early chance. Cotterill made a good run getting past three players before shooting. His effort was past Wilson but went just past the post.

Barry went close again as Callum Sainty run into the box and saw his close-range shot come back off the post.

Barry piled on the pressure with crosses’ and balls into the box but Kris Evans was in fine form heading away attack after attack from Barry.

Ferry had a chance against the run of play as Kinsella hit the bar. Making his way past two Barry players Kinsella lifted a shot onto the bar.

McLaggon should have levelled the score when he had a chance at the far post. McLaggon was unable to connect properly with the ball and find a way past Wilson.

Deep into added time and Barry could have been level. After pilling pressure on the Briton Ferry goal Curtis McDonald had shot with Wilson out of position. It seemed to be going in but Kris Evans was there on the line to clear.
