Resolute defending as Briton Ferry and Cambrian play to stalemate

Briton Ferry and Cambrian & Clydach Vale shared the points as the two played to a goalless draw at Old Road in the JD Cymru South.

Neither side could find a goal in a an evenly fought contest which could have gone either way.

The visitors enjoyed the better pressure in the first half but never really troubled Rhys Wilson’s goal. In the second half it was the Reds that had the better chances but they too struggle to trouble Harry Johnson.

On a night where all top four side where in action against each other the point for both sides means they remain in fourth and third respectively. Barry Town now top the JD Cymru South after their 3-1 win over Llanelli at Jenner Park.

The visitors made a quick start to the game and used a high press to pressure the Ferry defence. Josh Bull shot wide early on as Cambrian looked to take advantage of their quick start.

Cambrian went close when they sent a out swinging corner into the box which found the head of Keiran Coles. Coles, who was free in the box headed just over the bar.

Connor Davies tried from distance for Cambrian but his shot was blocked and went for a corner. The corner was played out to Josh Bull who tried for goal but shot wide.

Ferry’s best chance of the half came when Declan Evans picked up the ball out wide. He then cut inside the box and made a pass. His pass found Tyler Brock who hit a shot that went just wide.

The Reds began the second half better and had an early chance when Declan Evans broke into the box. Evans hit a low shot that needed a good save from Harry Johnson.

The host were looking for the opening goal in the second half and Tom Walters headed over from close range. Soon after Tyler Brock hit the post from a tight angle.

A high ball over the top caught out Harry Johnson and Luke Bowen looked to capitalise. Getting behind Johnson and winning the ball Bowen went for goal but hit the side netting.

Liam Williams tried from distance for Cambrian as they started to come back into the game. Williams shot though was wide and no trouble for Rhys Wilson.

The best chance of the game came as it was coming towards full-time. Ferry were in attack and a cross into the box found Luke Bowen. Bowen fired a shot across goal but it went just past the far post.

With five minutes to play the game was going back and fourth. Cambrian looking to grab a late winner found Lian Eason in the box. Eason, with some good footwork was able to fire a shot off but Rhys Wilson was down quickly to save.

With time running out Ferry went forward and Callum Saunders hit the side netting while Cullen Kinsella saw his shot blocked.
