Briton Ferry sweep aside Goytre to keep on Barry Town’s tails

Briton Ferry Llansawel remain hot on the heels of Barry Town after winning 4-1 against ten-man Goytre United at Old Road. 

Luke Bowen got the opening goal for Briton Ferry just three minutes into the game and that was followed up by substitute Jasper Payne who added a second just before the half-hour mark, but within five minutes Jordan Edwards was able to pull one back. 

Goytre’s task of getting back into the game was made more difficult in the 38th minute. Eliot Thomas being given a straight red card for a late tackle. Tyler Brock restored the two goal lead before half time and Cullen Kinsella added goal number four just after the restart.

Briton Ferry remain in second place as they look to catch leaders Barry Town, who won today 2-1 against Llantwit Major. One point separates the two sides but Barry have two games in hand. Goytre remain in 15th place still a point behind Abergavenny.


The hosts got off to a better start and took the lead early on. A clever ball out wide by Cullen Kinsella to Tom Walters allowed Walters space to cross. His cross to the far post was headed in by Luke Bowen. Briton Ferry ahead early on.

Ferry were forced into two early changes as Tyler Brock came on for Rio Dyer and Jasper Payne came on for Luke Bowen. Tyler Brock was soon involved and his volley from Tom Walters cross went just wide.

The Reds were looking for their second and their two subs combined. Brock finding Jasper Payne in the box but Payne saw his effort blocked.

Payne wasn’t to be denied a goal and he forced in on the line after Brock’s shot was part stopped by keeper Samuel Morton. Brock hit a shot that came off the Goytre keeper but Payne was first to the lose ball to put it in on the line.

Goytre quickly had a goal back, Sam Baker trying his luck from out on the right. His shot come cross not held by Rhys Wilson and Jordan Edwards putting in from close range.

With the game back in the balance, the visitors found themselves down to 10 after a rash tackle from Eliot Thomas. Thomas went to the ground and in such tricky conditions was late and saw a straight red card.

Tom Walters found himself out wide again and put another good ball across the box. Tyler Brock sliding in at the back post to restore Ferry’s two-goal lead.

Shortly after the restart and Briton Ferry extended their lead to three goals. Tyler Brock breaking on the right and putting a low ball across the penalty box. Cullen Kinsella made a perfect run to met it and finished coolly.

The home side continued to control the game and with the extra player were able to keep the ball and create chances. Tyler Brock saw an effort blocked while Mitchell Bates shot wide.
