Aberystwyth Town have stepped up their summer recruitment drive with the signing of experienced striker Aaron Williams as Craig Williams continues to reshape his squad ahead of the new Cymru South season.

The Black & Greens are determined to bounce back after a disappointing 2024-25 campaign, which saw them miss out on an immediate return to the Cymru Premier. Aberystwyth finished 16 points behind Ammanford, who secured the third and final promotion place from the Cymru South.

Manager Craig Williams is now building a squad capable of mounting a serious title challenge, with the arrival of former Football League forward Aaron Williams representing one of the club’s biggest signings of the summer.

Former Football League Striker Aaron Williams Arrives at Park Avenue

Williams joins Aberystwyth Town from Colwyn Bay after spending last season with the Seagulls.

The experienced striker made 34 appearances in all competitions during the 2024-25 campaign, scoring six goals and contributing two assists.

A former England C international, Williams brings a wealth of experience to Park Avenue, having previously played in the English Football League with Walsall, Peterborough United and Newport County.

Speaking after completing the move, Williams said:

“I’ve always known Aberystwyth Town to be a well-supported club with a proud history in Welsh football. Over the years, I’ve played at Park Avenue a number of times and know how passionate the supporters are. It’s a club with high standards and a real connection to the local community, so it’s exciting to now be part of that and represent the club myself.

“Having played alongside Craig at Newtown, I already knew the type of person he is and the standards he expects. We had some good conversations about the squad, the ambitions for the coming season and the role he sees me playing.

“That familiarity and trust definitely helped, and after speaking with him, it felt like the right move for me.

“When we spoke about the opportunity at Aberystwyth, it was clear that he has a real passion for the club and a strong vision for what he’s trying to build.”

Impressive Record at Newtown

Williams enjoyed the most prolific spell of his career at Newtown, where he scored 80 goals and registered 10 assists in 143 appearances between 2021 and 2025.

He departed Latham Park following the Robins’ relegation and now links up with former teammate Craig Williams as Aberystwyth look to return to the top flight.

Before his success in Welsh football, Williams featured in the EFL with Newport County, scoring three goals in 16 appearances. He also recorded a goal and three assists during his time at Peterborough United and made seven appearances for Walsall.

His extensive CV also includes spells with Harrogate Town, AFC Telford United, Nuneaton Town, Brackley Town and Worcester City.

Aberystwyth Continue Recruitment Drive with Local Talent

The signing of Aaron Williams is just one part of a busy summer for Aberystwyth Town.

The club have already added Luke Evans from Guilsfield, Tomos Evans and Dan Owen from Penrhyncoch, while Jonathan Evans and Liam Walsh have returned to the club from Briton Ferry Llansawel and Cardiff Met respectively.

Craig Williams has placed a strong emphasis on recruiting players with local connections and experience of Welsh football as he looks to build a squad capable of challenging for promotion.

Caersws Duo Dillon Browne and Harry Cottam Join

Aberystwyth have also strengthened with the arrivals of Dillon Browne and Harry Cottam from fellow Mid Wales side Caersws.

Midfielder Browne missed just one league match last season and scored four goals for the Bluebirds. The 25-year-old is no stranger to Park Avenue, having previously come through the club’s academy before establishing himself at Machynlleth.

Speaking after rejoining the club, Browne said:

“I’m really proud to be joining such a big club in Aber and having come through the club’s Academy, it’s great to be back.

“I’ve worked under Craig before and after speaking with him about the plans for the season, I was really excited to be part of it.”

Joining him is Caersws captain Harry Cottam, who arrives after another consistent campaign at the Recreation Ground.

The centre-back missed only two matches throughout the season, helping Caersws secure a ninth-place finish while contributing three goals and one assist from defence.

Cottam joined Caersws from Machynlleth in 2022 and, like Browne, has previously represented Aberystwyth Town.

Gruff Sedgwick Returns to Aberystwyth

Completing another piece of business, midfielder Gruff Sedgwick has returned to Park Avenue after leaving Newtown.

Sedgwick was part of Aberystwyth’s academy system until Under-14 level before continuing his development elsewhere. Having largely featured in academy football so far in his career, the midfielder will now be looking to establish himself in senior football.

With several new faces already through the door and further additions potentially to come, Aberystwyth Town’s summer rebuild is gathering momentum as they target a return to the Cymru Premier at the first opportunity.
