AFC Porth 0-1 Aberdare Town: Reddy strikes to hand Darians first league win of the season

Aberdare Town claimed their first win of the season with a narrow away success against still-winless AFC Porth.

Craig Reddy’s scored the only goal of the game fifteen minutes after hard time to hand his side a vital three points.

The recent bad weather meant that the hosts had played just once in the last five weeks, a span of games which saw them concede 25 times and score just once.

The win sees Joshua Evans’ side climb up one place to 14th after Panteg’s game with Penrhiwceiber Rangers was postponed.

Despite the poor conditions, both teams showed a willingness to play good football on a difficult surface.

Porth lost Jesse Bridge through injury after just fifteen minutes. He was replaced by Brython Payne who created the first chance of the game.

The substitute picked the pocket of an Aberdare defender before Liam Jones’ shot was tipped over by Michael George Thomas.

The best chance of the first half fell to Patrick Rysgaard, who controlled a good ball from Callum Rees, but did not get a clean connection on his shot and Thomas was able to save.

The visitors went ahead when Arran Caffell’s cross found Reddy, who tapped in from close range.

Liam Jones, the AFC Porth forward, was heavily involved in the final 20 minutes of the game, having a host of efforts from in and around the area, but he was unable to find the target and draw his side level.

The Black Dragons thought they had levelled when Jones tucked the ball into the bottom corner from the edge of the box, however, it was ruled out after a foul on the edge of the box.

The home team continued to probe, but a lack of options on the bench meant they did not use all of their substitutes, as they began to wilt in the closing stages and ultimately succumbed to defeat.

Aberdare will go in search of consecutive wins when they host sixth-place next Friday night, while Porth travel to Newport City, looking to bounce back from this set-back.
