Caerwys boss Jordan Hadaway has staked a claim in possibly becoming the youngest senior manager in the British football.
Hadaway, 18, has taken temporary charge of Caerwys, taking over from Ethan Jones. He worked alongside Jones in the North East Wales League.
Caerwys follow in the footsteps of fellow Welsh club Dolgellau Athletic in appointing a youthful manager.
Dave Webber – a second-year human geography student at the time – was 19 when he took the reins of the Mid Wales League in 2012.
Wales also possess the youngest ever top-flight manager, following Rhyl’s appointment of then 24-year-old Niall McGuinness in 2016.
Speaking to Grassroots North Wales, Hadaway spoke of his landmark appointment: “It feels great if I’m honest but I have worked hard to get to this point so here is my chance.
“With the title of youngest-ever that makes me feel honoured and it will make me more determined to get us back up the table.
Hadaway’s age has not been a deterrent in commanding respect from experienced players, the 18-year-old believes.
“When I get into the changing rooms or on the training ground I am confident and give it 100%.
“I think throughout my playing days I was always a leader on the pitch, guided and organising the team.
“My main strength, in my opinion, is motivating people and keeping them going right until the end and as I progress and learn more I can only become more confident.”
Hadaway will begin his reign away at Borras Park Albion on December 7. Caerwys are currently third from bottom.
