Eardley praises side for professional performance in Welsh Cup win

Caernarfon Town manager Sean Eardley has praised the attitude of his players, as they progressed into the next round of the JD Welsh Cup with a 3-0 win over Prestatyn Town.

A brace from Cai Jones and a goal from Noah Edwards against his former club sees the Cofis advance beyond the Huws Gray Alliance outfit in the national cup competition.

The away side were comfortable victors, and were 2-0 up by half time. But, Eardley has praised his side for the attitude and discipline in the victory over a Prestatyn side that Eardley believes are better than their league position implies.

“I’d settle for 1-0. I’ve firstly got to congratulate my boys, as it was thoroughly disciplined. A good professional performance. Prestatyn can pose a lot of threats, they’re certainly in a false position.

Eardley added, “They’ve got good forward players, full credit to Prestatyn they gave it a go right to the end, even when we scored the 3rd, they went right until the end.

“A good cup tie, and we realised the task at hand, but I’ve got to commend my players. From minute one we were excellent, our attitude and application to this match was first class.”

Edwards scored after just 13 minutes to hand the away side an early lead that set the tone for the rest of the game.

The midfielder joined the club this summer from Connah’s Quay Nomads and has formed a dynamic midfield duo alongside Jamie Crowther, and the manager insisted that the early goal changed the game.

“Early goals change complexions of games, to get an early goal here settled the early nerves.

“Full credit to my players, we can enjoy tomorrow now and we look forward to the draw on Monday.”

However, the victory has posed some difficult questions for the manager, as he faces a selection headache in the festive period with the return of current first team absentees.

But, Eardley has insisted that the players’ passion for the club is evident and that it’s a good problem to have.

“They all want to play for Caernarfon Town, so unfortunately for myself and the management we’ve got a very difficult task on our hands, and it’ll get even more difficult in the coming weeks because we’ve got lads coming back from injury.”

Next week, the Cofis host Aberystwyth at the Oval in a key JD Welsh Premier League fixture.

The league’s new boys are four points behind the league’s fifth placed side, knowing a victory could see them leapfrog Newtown and narrow the gap between themselves and Neville Powell’s men.

The manager is expecting a full house when Powell’s men visit.

“I hope the weather takes a turn for the better because the atmosphere at the Oval next week is going to be white hot.

Somehow I’ve got to pick an eleven now.”
