Borussia Dortmund have emerged as surprise favourites in the race for Wales international Harry Wilson.

The 22-year-old is subject of reported interest of Aston Villa and Newcastle but now a new club may have entered the running.

Sky Bet have placed Borussia Dortmund as the front runners for his signature, placing them as 8/11 favourites to sign Wilson, according to the Hull Daily Mail.

The Corwen-born attacker came up against Dortmund in pre-season for Liverpool this pre-season, scoring against them in a 3-2 defeat.

He also had cameo appearances against Napoli, Sevilla and Sporting.

Ex-Liverpool midfielder Jason McAteer believes Jurgen Klopp may keep both Harry Wilson and Ryan Kent at Liverpool this season.

Speaking to the Daily Express, McAteer said: “It’s down to them. But I think the manager possibly would like to keep them. The problem they have is, will they spend a long period of time in the team?

“That’s what your ultimate goal has got to be. Harry Wilson’s 22, so there’s going to be opportunities, League Cup, FA Cup, there’s a lot of football to be played. Suspensions, injuries, you’re going to have to rest players.

“But we’ve got one of the most formidable front lines in European football. If the manager can get them three on the pitch every week, he’s going to want to do that. Is anyone really going to displace one of them? No. Is Harry Wilson? No. Ryan Kent? No.

“So the manager, from a recruitment point of view, it’s not been that busy, he’ll probably want to keep them, keep his squad bolstered.

“From a personal point of view, if it was me, I’d maybe want to go and play elsewhere and play week-in, week-out. That’s what we aim to do [as footballers].”

Last season, Wilson spent time on loan with Derby County. He featured 46 times for the Rams, scoring 17 goals, as they reached the Play-Off final, as well as some memorable Carabao and FA Cup runs.

Wilson has made 11 appearances for Wales and played in their recent European Championship qualifiers against Croatia and Hungary.
