Briton Ferry Llansawel will head into Christmas top of the Cymru South after beating Llanelli Town.

The Reds moved ahead of Haverfordwest County after making the most of the Bluebirds postponement.

Mark Jones continued his fine goalscoring form as he scored a brace to take

Luke Harris and Stephen Davey were also on target as they were undeterred from Tim Parker’s opening goal.

Briton Ferry – The Cymru South’s in-form team – secured their eighth straight victory with a streetwise victory over a side who had been playing top-flight football earlier this year.

Briton Ferry may have been worrying about the Manager of the Month curse as they fell behind in the first minute.

An under-hit backpass was punished by Tim Parker who scored with a composed finish past ex-Llanelli goalkeeper Conah McFenton.

The Reds trailed for just six minutes as they pulled one back from a familiar face to Llanelli.

Mark Jones – a former striker of Llanelli – scored his 21st goal of the campaign with a flicked header from Tyler Brock’s pullback after Stephen Davey found him with a pinpoint cross.

Davey was a menace in the first-half as he continuously scored problems for Llanelli.

Davey retrieved the ball after his corner kick was partially cleared to cross into man-of-the-match Luke Harris who headed past Rees.

Llanelli tried to level proceedings but Kyle Copp’s shot was palmed away by McFenton with Nathan Logan blazing over the bar on the rebound.

Zac Brown also went close for Llanelli as his cross-hit shot sliced past the post.

Towards the end of the half, Davey almost put Briton Ferry further ahead but Kai Rees denied the winger from point-blank range after a deft flick.

Joe Clarke’s missed header in first-half stoppage time meant the Reds trailed the hosts.

Mark Jones’ spurned two chances for a second goal early in the second half.

Firstly blazing over from close-range from Brock’s low cross before then heading over from Davey’s Cross.

Carl Shaw’s men then went two ahead after earning an opportunity from the penalty spot.

Mark Jones was pushed in the box as he chased Davey’s free-kick.

In the final quarter, Tim Parker almost got one back but his low shot was saved by McFenton.

Briton Ferry broke up the other end to further their lead.

Mark Jones scored his 22nd league goal of the season as his hard work and determination in the box was rewarded with a scrappy finish.

Llanelli had a handful of chances to register more than one goal. Firstly Logan’s effort was cleared off the line before Clarke hooked a shot over the bar.

Dickeson’s side were unable to add to their tally as the Llanelli boss goes his first month without a victory.
