Prestatyn Town snap up veteran Jamie Reed after Aberystwyth exit

Jamie Reed has joined Prestatyn Town after his departure from Aberystwyth Town.

The former York City man will spend the 2021/21 season at the defending Cymru North champions after he left the Seasiders due to the traveling required in the Cymru Premier.

Arriving in North Wales, Reed brings a vast amount of experience in the Welsh football scene, playing for the likes of Bangor City, Rhyl, and The New Saints.

During his time in the Welsh top flight, he won three leagues, claimed two Welsh Cups, and scored 102 goals. He moves to Prestatyn with seven goals in 26 appearances in the past season.

Commenting on his move to Bastion Gardens, Reed said: “It’s great to be involved within the project. I’m good friends with both Ben and Tom Taylor and I’m looking forward to working together and having a good go next season.

“I’m not here to take my foot off the gas, I’m here to hopefully help the club move forward. I’ve been involved in plenty of games against Prestatyn and know the potential of the club and the good following.

“I’m looking forward to being a part of it.”

The 33-year-old will juggle playing in the Cymru North alongside managing their Under-19s side. He held a similar role during his stint at the Cefn Druids this season.

“For the 19s, I think it’s important for the youth set up to have a link and pathway to the first team especially at a club like this, which has brought so many players through in the past.

“I want to help continue that process and me being the head coach and part of the first team will only make that link stronger.”

In addition to Reed’s comments, manager Ben Heath said: “I am pleased we got this one agreed on early doors Jamie’s ability and experience is exactly what we wanted.

“He will bring many qualities on and off the pitch also giving guidance to the up and coming youth players. This is just the start of the rebuild.”
