The Cymru South is at the halfway stage and so far it is the young players who have caught the attention.

In previous years, the division was reserved for players who either came to the end of their time in the Cymru Premier or just couldn’t make a mark in the Welsh top flight.

Now the second-tier division is a hotbed for young talent in Wales, who are thriving in a competitive setup.

Clubs across the league rely on young players coming through their clubs and there is a huge array of talent on show.

We have picked five players under the age of 23-years-old to keep an eye on for the remainder of the campaign.

Corey Hurford (Briton Ferry Llansawel) – 17-years-old

Hurford has been a sensation for Briton Ferry this season with four goals from the wing and helping out with assists. Scoring a superb goal in the opening game of the season and then got an assist to help Ferry to a 3-0 win over Swansea Uni.

The 17-year-old is always a willing runner and has the ability to put in a good cross from either side of the pitch.

His performances have help the Reds to third place in the Cymru South.

Joe Thomas (Cambrian and Clydach Vale) – 19-years-old

19-year-old Thomas has made eight appearances for Cambrian and Clydach this season with three goals and six assists.

The defender came through Cambrian’s development team to break into the first team this season.

Helping the club to fifth place in the table so far, playing in five of the teams six wins.

He has recently attracted the interest of a number of professional clubs and has gone on trial, with the potential of a move in the new year.

Tristan Jenkins (Ammanford) – 20-years-old

Tristan Jenkins has been in n fine goalscoring form this season hitting the net 16 times in his 11 games.

Incredibly he hit four in a match twice this season, with the first coming against Undy Athletic back in August and then again in September against Port Talbot.

The goal-scoring form may not be a coincidence as Jenkins can call on the help of former Swansea player Lee Trundle.

David Lyon (Taffs Well) – 19-years-old

With eight goals from ten games, David Lyon has had a fine start to the Cymru South this season.

In his second spell in the Cymru South after breaking through at Caerau Ely before an unsuccessful move to TNS. He failed to make a first-team appearance for the Cymru Premier side.

He signed for Taffs Well at the start of the season and is clearly making the most of the opportunity in South Wales.

Josh Jones (Llantwit Major) – 22-years-old

Josh Jones has made 11 Cymru South appearances for leaders Llantwit Major this season. The winger has picked up four goals and an assist in those matches as Llantwit have surprised many this season.

Quick with the ball Jones get-go to the by-line and cross or cut inside and try a shot. His ability to transition the ball into the final third has been a vital part of Llantwit’s success so far.

With Llantwit having applied for a Tier One License, Jones could test himself in the Cymru Premier next season.
